Case: Reynders label printing

REYNDERS label printing

Smarter logistics, more focus on expertise

Problem:

Skilled operators spend time moving pallets throughout the production floor

Solution:

Mobile robotics to automate the pallet transport according to process logic

Results:

100% reduction of manual transport. No more manual pallet movement, just-in-time roll replenishment

REYNDERS label printing are at the pinnacle of pharmaceutical label printing. This family-owned company comprises eight production sites in Europe and Asia, with a combined production of more than 16 billion labels per year. Our mobile robotics solution optimizes their production logistics by taking the low value pallet transport away from highly skilled operators.

The goal of the project is to autonomously support the transportation of all printed rolls from the presses to the finishing stations.

‘At REYNDERS label printing, we continuously invest in innovations that make our processes more efficient while supporting our employees. That’s why we chose to work with MoviGo Robotics and their autonomous mobile robot solution. Thanks to this technology, our operators no longer have to spend time transporting pallets between printing presses and finishing stations. Instead, they can focus entirely on what they do best: producing high-quality labels for our customers.’, says Sebastiaan Reynders, procurement director at REYNDERS.

‘In our production site in Boechout, the robot has long stopped being “the robot.” It answers to Jules nowadays. If you hear someone say “Watch out for Juleke!”, chances are our autonomous colleague is on its way to deliver another pallet. A nice example of how new technology quickly becomes part of everyday life when it genuinely helps people focus on what they do best.’

Project specifics:

Ŝharko5 mobile robot technology platform

MoviĜo Vision technology for location management and empty pallet detection

API integration with Customer MIS

The project in numbers:

5 days a week, 16 hours per day

1 Ŝharko5 HP mobile robot

10 cameras monitoring 34 finishing locations

265 drop-off locations

265 pickup locations

Highlights:

Zero human pallet transport

All locations always populated by a pallet, either full or empty

Vision systems’ empty pallet detection triggers a task request to MIS

Fully automated pallet switching between full and empty pallets on the same location

Robot used in this project

Ŝharko5SP (Small Pallet)

This robot is currently the robot with the smallest turning circle. If you transport Half Euro pallets, or an equivalent, then this is the ultimate robot for those really small aisles. Because it is omnidirectional, it can turn on the spot within its own length and move sideways. Also available with a maximum payload capacity of 1.000Kg; the SP+.
